Acupuncture is a system of healing which has been practised in China for thousands of years. Central to traditional Chinese medicine is the concept of Qi. Qi is the life force or vital energy which flows throughout your body. In a healthy person the Qi flows smoothly around the body. However if this flow is disrupted for some reason then illnesses can occur. Acupuncture corrects the flow of Qi by the insertion of very fine needles into specific points that lie on the channels of energy stimulating a healing response.

Vikas has been part of the Scorpio clinics team since 2009. He qualified in 2002 and then went on to specialise in the musculoskeletal field, doing a Master’s Degree in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. Vikas is also a CASE accredited MSK Sonographer. If appropriate, he will use Ultrasound scanning during the consultation to make a precise diagnosis and to monitor progress. Vikas is a trained acupuncturist for musculoskeletal injuries. He holds a post graduate certificate in spinal manual therapy.

Vikas has completed series of specialist courses related to body mechanics and rehabilitation including the renowned Kinetic control series (https://www.comeramovementscience.co.uk/kinetic-control) and the Connect Therapy series (https://ljlee.ca/connect-therapy-series/ ) His master’s research was on post ACL reconstruction rehabilitation and he has also done a project on myofascial headaches which he presented at a national physiotherapy conference.

After finishing his Masters, Vikas worked in the NHS and achieved the post of Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist/Team lead. He then worked as a lead practitioner for a Royal Air Force rehab clinic where the case load included both simple and complex trauma, sports injuries and chronic pain, and which involved high-end rehabilitation for speedy recovery/readiness for armed action.

Currently Vikas divides his time between Scorpio Clinics and his role in the NHS which he re-joined in May 2012 as an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner (APP) where he carries out complex orthopaedic assessments and works jointly with the orthopaedic consultants. Vikas is IRMER trained and is well versed with indications of investigation modalities like Xrays and MRI scan. He is also a trained injection therapist and does ultrasound guided cortisone injections for joints and tendons.

Vikas believes in hands on techniques to reduce pain in the acute stage, together with a strong emphasis on treating the underlying cause with preventative and self-help exercises so that positive outcomes are maintained in the long term. He uses a variety of treatment techniques like myofascial release, joint mobilisation/manipulation, Shockwave therapy, muscle energy techniques, core stability regimes, dry needling/acupuncture to name a few. Whether it is a “niggly back” or “dodgy shoulder”, whether it is a marathon or a walk around the lake, Vikas is happy to help you to recovery. Should physio not return you to normal function, he’ll know the best specialist/appropriate investigation to send you to.

Karl had military/police background before studying physiotherapy, graduating in 1998. He initially worked locally within the NHS, before entering private practice in 2000.

Throughout his career, he has spent time living & working between the UK & South Africa.

His sporting interests include rugby, martial arts, & clay pigeon shooting, & his main clinical interests are sports injuries, knee problems and spinal dysfunction. He has a very ‘hands-on’ approach in treating his patients and uses a wide variety of specialised techniques including the Graston Technique, dry needling & manipulation to help achieve his goal of longterm functional improvement, allowing his patients to be able to better self manage their problem.

Since 2020, he has also re-entered the NHS, on a part-time basis, working as the Lead Physiotherapist within a mental health setting.

Viv qualified as a Chartered Physio at St Mary’s Hospital, in 1988. She has been working in private practice for 30 years and worked for the NHS for 4 yrs at the beginning of her career. Viv has now been at Scorpio for 16 yrs.

Viv is experienced in all areas of physiotherapy treatment, apart from Womens Health. These patients are referred to her colleague Jane Mayes who is expert in this area.

Viv regularly visits the operating theatre to keep up to date with surgical procedures and consequently works closely with the Orthopaedic Consultants. At present she works alongside Mr Martin Logan using the Pilates reformer to get excellent post operative results, particularly Total knee replacements, ACL repairs , patella fractures and knee ligament injuries.

“I have been working with Viv for many years now. She is a fantastic physiotherapist whose huge knowledge and excellent techniques help motivate our patients to get the best possible functional outcome after surgery. Just ask her patients.”

Mr. Martin Logan Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Harley Street Knee Clinic 78 Harley Street London W1G 7HJ

Viv prefers the hands on approach to treatment using traditional deep tissue massage and spinal mobilisation techniques, plus the Graston technique for additional myofascial release. In 2014 Viv studied Western Acupuncture, which she now uses alongside manual therapy.

PILATES: In 2004 Viv started her training in Pilates and is a fully qualified APPI Pilates instructor (matwork and reformer). She uses this with patients for their rehabilitation - frequently giving her patients their own personalised Pilates program to do at home. Clinical Pilates is especially good for rehabilitating patients following spinal surgery. Viv also runs Clinical Pilates classes at Scorpio Clinics.

“I qualified as a physio in 2001 from Riverside College, Bacolod City in the Philippines. I returned to England that year and started working in various hospital settings, specialising in Orthopaedics. From this, I developed a special interest in sports medicine and sports injuries: specifically in rotational sports such as golf, polo, tennis and squash. Through further post-graduate research I have developed a wider interest in high intensity sports such as moto-cross and motor racing (superbikes and cars). I am currently involved with the local F1 Racing team, screening F1 drivers/ F1 testing drivers and the young drivers. I have been appointed to screen and look after all P1 GTR drivers.

I specialise in movement pattern analysis, functional movement assessment and functional exercise prescription. I believe that improving basic movement patterns is fundamental to improving one’s ability to perform. In short, improved physical fitness leads to improved sports performance. I studied human movement and performance while training for ballet for 17 years.

I am also trained in myofascial release, manipulation, Specific Soft Tissue and Connective Tissue Mobilisation, Muscle Energy Technique and Sports Taping. I am a certified level 3 Titleist Performance Institute Medical Professional and Junior Golf Coach. I am one of only two physiotherapists in the UK to have achieved both these certifications. I am currently dividing my time between Scorpio and working as a FIRST CONTACT PRACTITIONER within Berkshire and Surrey GP Practices. FCP’s are regulated, advanced and autonomous health professionals trained to provide expert Musculoskeletal (MSK) assessment, diagnosis and first-line treatment, self-care advice and if required, appropriate onward referral. This role requires advanced level skills to manage individuals with undifferentiated diagnoses at the start of the pathway whilst recognising the uncertainly and potential complexity of these patients. I have completed my IRMER Training (Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulation which means that I am able to refer patients for an x-ray and ultrasound within the NHS setting. Whilst I was working in the NHS I set up the Oncology Musculoskeletal Services where I worked primarily with women diagnosed with breast cancer who had undergone WLE (wide local excision surgery) or mastectomy. This led me to explore the parallel Men’s Health patients suffering from prostate cancer: and specifically patients with vascular erectile dysfunction. My curiosity encouraged me to pursue further studies and courses during the Covid lockdown which enable me confidently to treat patients facing the challenges of ED (Erectile Dysfunction) using our FOCUSED SHOCKWAVE THERAPY equipment. When not at work, I spend time with my husband Jakeson and my toddler Storm exploring and enjoying our local parks and club where we exercise and swim!”

Dana Bergman is a holistic, intuitive and experienced physiotherapist. she holds a degree in physiotherapy from Tel Aviv University (1989). Dana always looks at the body as a whole, and is seeking to address the root cause rather than the presenting symptoms. Her preferred mode of practice is Myofascial Release (MFR), a gentle yet potent modality which serves to release restrictions, realign the body, reduce pain, balance the Autonomic nervous system (ANS) encourage lymphatic flow and thus support the body in its healing process.

She combines hands on treatment with education and self management techniques to optimize movement and posture, increase body awareness, re-educate proprioception (the body’s sense of where it is in space), all aimed at maintaining a flexible and pain free body.

Over the last five years, Dana has focused on on refining her touch and ‘listening skills’ which enable her to identify fascial restrictions in the body and support the fascia in unwinding. She has attended numerous CPD courses on fascia and Visceral Manipulation .

She has been successful in improving long standing chronic pains, as well as acute symptoms following fractures or surgery. Releasing old scars, headaches, migraines persistent cramps, Jaw issues as well as bladder, bowel and other pelvis issues.

Treatment is an hour-long, as it takes the tissue time to release and and to integrate the changes in to the body as a whole. This allows for lasting changes. Treatment is gentle, Potent, pain free and relaxing, and is followed by a series of specific stretches and exercises which are taught to enable improvements to be maintained.

Dana is also a certified Pilates instructor with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI) and may choose to integrate Pilates based exercise where appropriate.

Her role as a physiotherapist is to support you, and enable you to achieve your goals, manage your conditions, and do things you want to do with as little pain as possible. Physiotherapy and Pilates are only tools, not solutions.

Fascial release is based on the biotensegrity approach to movement, and is supported by new emerging science. She work carefully to release, re balance and realign the soft tissues all around the body. When tension and pain have been present for some time, it will require ‘peeling layers off’ (metaphorically speaking), before exposing the culprit tissues.

Dana believes that the body is one: mind-body, emotional-physical. Her role is to facilitate and support your recovery. Treatment should not be painful and should always feel right for your body. Exercises should always support what you aiming to achieve. Dana’s sessions are very hands-on. A refined listening touch, supported by intuition, to assess what your body wants. It is always amazing to experience the transformation that happens between sessions. And when new patterns become part of every-day life, improvements can be maintained long term.”
